Don't throw away a cracked, bent, or slightly worn cutting mat. Instead trim down the best portion of it to a square slightly larger than your favorite block size. Then the next time you're squaring up blocks, place the trimmed mat square atop your full-size cutting mat. The mini mat will rotate easily as you trim your blocks, eliminating the need for you to move the fabric or yourself around the cutting table.
