Marking Tulle

To quickly and inexpensively transfer quilting designs to a quilt top, secure a piece of tulle in an embroidery hoop that's approximately the same size as your quilting design. Place the hoop facedown over your desired design (so the tulle is against the paper), and trace the design with a permanent marker. After the marker dries, position the hoop facedown on your quilt top. Trace the design again, only this time with a water-soluble marker or chalk pencil, to transfer it to your quilt top. The resulting lines are easy to follow and wash out when you're finished.
