Assemble Triangle-Squares
1. Sew together a cream vine print triangle and an assorted print or multicolor print triangle to make an assorted triangle-square (Diagram 1). Press seam toward darker fabric. The triangle-square should be 2-1⁄4" square including seam allowances. Repeat to make 128 assorted triangles-squares total.
2. Using brown print triangles and light green print triangles, repeat Step 1 to make 24 brown triangle-squares. Set aside the remaining eight brown print and eight light green print triangles to use in making units E–H.
Assemble Units A-D
1. Referring to Diagram 2, lay out eight assorted triangle-squares (two from each print; note directions of seams) in two vertical rows. Sew together pieces in each row. Press seams toward darker fabrics. Join rows to make Unit A (Diagram 3). Press seam open. Unit A should be 4x7-1⁄2" including seam allowances. Repeat to make eight A units total.
2. Referring to Diagram 4 for placement, repeat Step 1 with remaining assorted triangle-squares to make eight B units.
3. Sew together four brown triangle-squares in pairs (Diagram 5; note directions of seams). Press seams in opposite directions. Join pairs to make Unit C; press seam in one direction. Unit C should be 4" square including seam allowances. Repeat to make four C units total.
4. Referring to Diagram 6, repeat Step 3 to make one Unit D.
Assemble Units E-H
1. Join a brown print triangle to light green edge of a brown triangle-square. Press seam toward triangle-square. Add a light green print triangle to brown print edge of same triangle-square to make Unit E (Diagram 7). Press as before. Repeat to make two E units total.
2. Referring to Diagram 8 for placement, repeat Step 1 to make two F units.
3. Referring to Diagram 9, sew together a brown print triangle and a light green triangle to make Unit G. Press seam toward brown triangle. Repeat to make a second G unit.
4. Referring to Diagram 10, use remaining brown print triangles and light green print triangles make two H units. Press seam as before.
Assemble Quilt Center
1. Referring to Quilt Assembly Diagram, lay out units A–H and cream bird print setting squares and triangles in seven diagonal rows. (Note that A and B units are rotated 180° in some rows. The C units are rotated 90° in alternating rows.)
2. Sew together pieces in each row; press seams away from A and B units.
3. Add units G and H to complete quilt center. Press seams toward G and H units. The quilt center should be 30-1⁄8" square including seam allowances.
Assemble and Add Borders
1. Sew dark brown print 1-1⁄2x30-1⁄8" inner border strips to opposite edges of quilt center. Add dark brown print 1-1⁄2x32-1⁄8" inner border strips to remaining edges. Press all seams toward inner border.
2. Sew multicolor print 1-1⁄2x32-1⁄8" middle border strips to opposite edges of quilt center. Add multicolor print 1-1⁄2x34-1⁄8" middle border strips to remaining edges. Press all seams toward inner border.
3. Sew dark brown print 1-1⁄2x34-1⁄8" outer border strips to opposite edges of quilt center. Add dark brown print 1-1⁄2x36-1⁄8" outer border strips to remaining edges to complete quilt. Press all seams toward outer border.
