• 1-1/8 yards aqua print (blocks, binding)
• 1 yard white multicolor print (blocks)
• 5/8 yard light aqua print (blocks)
• 7/8 yard olive green print (blocks)
• 1/3 yard white-and-green tree print (blocks)
• 3/4 yard red print (blocks)
• 7/8 yard gold print (blocks)
• 1 yard white-and-gold tree print (blocks)
• 3 yards backing fabric
• 53x57" batting
• Lightweight tracing paper or other foundation material of your choice

Finished quilt: 44-1/2x48-1/2"

Finished blocks: 22x24"

Quantities are for 44/45"-wide, 100% cotton fabrics.

Measurements include 1/4" seam allowances. Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated.

Cut pieces in the following order.

Because block units are foundation-pieced, fabric pieces are cut larger than necessary. You will trim them to the correct size after stitching them to the foundation.

From aqua print, cut:

• 5--2-1/2x42" binding strips
• 4--3-1/2x11" strips
• 4--3-1/2x9" strips
• 8--3-1/2x6" strips
• 8--3-1/2" squares

From white multicolor print, cut:

• 8--3-1/2x12" strips
• 8--3-1/2x10" strips
• 8--3-1/2x5" strips
• 8--3-1/2" squares

From light aqua print, cut:

• 8--3-1/2x10" strips
• 8--3-1/2x7" strips

From olive green print, cut:

• 16--3-1/2x9"strips
• 16--3-1/2x6" strips

From white-and-green tree print, cut:

• 8--3-1/2x8" strips

From red print, cut:

• 8--3-1/2x12" strips
• 8--3-1/2x6" strips
• 8--3-1/2" squares

From gold print, cut:

• 8--3-1/2x10" strips
• 8--3-1/2x8" strips
• 8--3-1/2x5" strips

From white-and-gold tree print, cut:

• 4--3-1/2x11" strips
• 8--3-1/2x10" strips
• 4--3-1/2x9" strips
• 8--3-1/2x7" strips
• 8--3-1/2" squares

Pattern A is in three sections on download. Use the following instructions to trace Pattern A onto tracing paper, or print Pattern A onto your foundation material, then assemble.

1. Use a pencil to trace all three sections of Pattern A onto tracing paper. Cut out sections roughly 1/4" outside dashed lines. Match sections at dots; tape in place to make a full Pattern A.

2. Trace Pattern A onto lightweight tracing paper or foundation material of your choice, tracing all lines and numbers, to make an A foundation paper. Cut out the A foundation paper roughly 1/4" outside dashed lines. Repeat to make eight A foundation papers total.

3. Reversing Pattern A, repeat Step 2 to make eight A reversed foundation papers.

Pattern B is in three sections on download. Use the following instructions to trace Pattern B onto tracing paper, or print Pattern B directly onto your foundation material, then assemble.

4. Use a pencil to trace three sections of Pattern B onto tracing paper. Cut out sections roughly 1/4" outside dashed lines. Match sections at dots; tape in place to make a full Pattern B.

5. Trace Pattern B onto lightweight tracing paper or foundation material of your choice, tracing all lines and numbers, to make a B foundation paper. Cut out the B foundation paper roughly 1/4" outside dashed lines. Repeat to make eight B foundation papers total.

Pattern C is in three sections on download. Use the following instructions to trace Pattern C onto tracing paper, or print Pattern C directly onto your foundation material, then assemble.

6. Using Pattern C instead of Pattern B, repeat steps 4 and 5 to make eight C foundation papers.

To foundation-piece, you stitch fabric pieces to a foundation paper with the marked side of paper facing up and fabric pieces layered underneath.

1. For one aqua A unit, gather one each of the following: aqua print 3-1/2x6" strip (position 1) and 3-1/2" square (position 7), white multicolor print 3-1/2x10" strip (position 2) and 3-1/2x5" strip (position 6), light aqua print 3-1/2x10" strip (position 3) and 3-1/2x7" strip (position 5), and olive green print 3-1/2x9" strip (position 4).

2. With right sides together, center a position 1 aqua print strip atop a position 2 white multicolor print strip; align a pair of long edges. Place an A foundation paper atop layered strips, positioning it so the strips' aligned edges are 1/4" beyond first stitching line (the line between positions 1 and 2) and at least 1/4" beyond beginning and end of stitching line (Diagram 1). To check placement, pin on first stitching line. Flip position 2 strip open, making sure it completely covers position 2 and extends at least 1/4" into position 3. If it doesn't, reposition and recheck until it does.

3. With marked side of the A foundation paper up, sew on stitching line through all layers, extending stitching past beginning and ending of the line by a few stitches. Press position 2 strip open and trim to about 1/4" beyond stitching line between positions 2 and 3 (Diagram 2).

4. With right sides together, align position 3 light aqua strip with trimmed edge of position 2 piece. Sew on stitching line through all layers (Diagram 3). Trim seam allowance if needed; press position 3 strip open and trim to 1/4" beyond next stitching line (Diagram 4).

5. In the same manner, add positions 4-7 strips to cover the A foundation paper; trim each previously stitched position 1/4" beyond stitching line before adding the next piece (Diagram 5).

6. Trim all fabric layers and foundation paper on dashed lines to make an aqua A unit (Diagrams 6 and 7).

7. Repeat steps 1-6 to make four aqua A units total.

8. Using A reversed foundation papers, repeat steps 1-6 to make four aqua A reversed units

9. For one aqua B unit, gather one each of the following: white multicolor print 3-1/2x12" strip (position 1) and 3-1/2" square (position 5), aqua print 3-1/2x9" strip (position 2), white-and-green tree print 3-1/2x8" strip (position 3), and olive green print 3-1/2x5" strip (position 4). Using B foundation papers, repeat steps 2-6 to make four aqua B units.

10. For one aqua C unit, gather one each of the following: white multicolor print 3-1/2x12" strip (position 1) and 3-1/2" square (position 5), aqua print 3-1/2x11" strip (position 2), white-and-green tree print 3-1/2x8" strip (position 3), and olive green print 3-1/2x6" strip (position 4). Using C foundation papers, repeat steps 2-6 to make four aqua C units.

1. For one red A unit, gather one each of the following: red print 3-1/2x6" strip (position 1) and 3-1/2" square (position 7), gold print 3-1/2x10" strip (position 2) and 3-1/2x5" strip (position 6), white-and-gold tree print 3-1/2x10" strip (position 3) and 3-1/2x7" strip (position 5), and olive green print 3-1/2x9" strip (position 4). Referring to Assemble Aqua Units, steps 2-6, use remaining A foundation papers to make four red A units.

2. Using remaining A reversed foundation papers and fabric pieces listed in Step 1, make four red A reversed units.

3. For one red B unit, gather one each of the following: red print 3-1/2x12" strip (position 1), white-and-gold tree print 3-1/2x9" strip (position 2) and 3-1/2" square (position 5), gold print 3-1/2x8" strip (position 3), and olive green print 3-1/2x5" strip (position 4). Referring to Assemble Aqua Units, steps 2-6, use remaining B foundation papers to make four red B units.

4. For one red C unit, gather one each of the following: red print 3-1/2x12"strip (position 1), white-and-gold tree print 3-1/2x11" strip (position 2) and 3-1/2" square (position 5), gold print 3-1/2x8" strip (position 3), and olive green print 3-1/2x6" strip (position 4). Referring to Assemble Aqua Units, steps 2-6, use remaining C foundation papers to make four red C units.

1. Referring to Block Assembly Diagram, lay out two each of aqua units A, A reversed, B, and C.

2. Sew together an A unit and a B unit to make a pair. Press seam open.

3. Join an A reversed unit and a C unit to make a second pair. Press seam open.

4. Sew together pairs to make a half block. Press seam open.

5. Repeat steps 2-4 to make a second half block.

6. Join half blocks to make an aqua block. Press seam open. The block should be 22-1/2x24-1/2" including seam allowances.

7. Repeat steps 1-6 to make a second aqua block.

8. Using red units A, A reversed, B, and C, repeat steps 1-6 to make two red blocks.

1. Referring to Quilt Assembly Diagram, lay out aqua blocks and red blocks in pairs. Sew together blocks in each pair. Press seams in opposite direction.

2. Join pairs to make quilt top. Press seam in one direction.

3. Remove paper foundations with tweezers or the blunt edge of a seam ripper.

1. Layer quilt top, batting, and backing; baste. Quilt as desired.

2. Bind with aqua print binding strips.
