Inspired by "Green Piece" quilt maker Mary Pepper

Materials

  • 3/8 yard cream print (units)
  • 3/4 yard total assorted green, yellow, gold, peach, and blue prints (units)
  • 1/2 yard green print (binding)
  • 1/2 yard backing fabric
  • 16x40" batting

Finished quilt: 12-1/2 x36-1/2 "

Quantities are for 44/45"-wide,100% cotton fabrics. Measurements include 1/4" seam allowances. Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated.

Cut Fabrics

Cut pieces in the following order:

From cream print, cut:

  • 2--6-7/8" squares, cutting each in half diagonally for 4 large triangles total
  • 14--2-7/8" squares, cutting each in half diagonally for 28 small triangles total
  • 4--2-1/2" squares

From assorted green prints, cut:

  • 26--2-7/8" squares, cutting each in half diagonally for 52 small triangles total
  • 4--2-1/2" squares

From assorted yellow and gold prints, cut:

  • 16--2-7/8" squares, cutting each in half diagonally for 32 small triangles total

From assorted peach prints, cut:

  • 14--2-7/8" squares, cutting each in half diagonally for 28 small triangles total
  • 4--2-1/2" squares

From assorted blue prints, cut:

  • 8--2-7/8" squares, cutting each in half diagonally for 16 small triangles total

From green print, cut:

  • 3--2-1/2x42" binding strips

Assemble Triangle-Squares

1. Sew together one cream print small triangle and one assorted green print small triangle to make a light triangle-square (Diagram 1). Press seam in one direction. The triangle-square should be 2-1/2" square including seam allowances. Referring to photo of quilt, for small triangle color, repeat to make 28 light triangle-squares total.

2. Referring to Diagram 1 and photo, join two assorted print small triangles to make a dark triangle-square. Press seam in one direction. Repeat to make 44 dark triangle-squares total.

Assemble Table Runner Units

1. Lay out seven light triangle-squares, 11 dark triangle-squares, one cream print large triangle, one cream print 2-1/2" square, two assorted print 2-1/2" squares, and three assorted print small triangles (Diagram 2).

2. Join triangle-squares, squares, and small triangles in each row. Press seams in one direction, alternating direction with each row. Join rows; press seams in one direction. Add cream print large triangle to make a table runner unit. Repeat to make a second table runner unit.

3. Referring to Diagram 3, repeat Step 1 to make two reversed table runner units.

Assemble Table Runner Top

1. Referring to Table Runner Assembly Diagram, lay out table runner units and reversed table runner units.

2. Sew together table runner units in pairs. Press seams opposite directions. Join complete table runner top. Press seams in one direction.

Finish Table Runner

1. Layer table runner top, batting, and backing; baste. Quilt as desired.

2. Bind with green print binding strips.
