  • 16—2-1/2 ×4-1/2" rectangles

From white print, cut:

  • 4—2-1/2×42" strips for border

From blue print, cut:

  • 16—2-1/2×8-1/2" rectangles
  • 16—2-1/2×6-1/2" rectangles
  • 5—2-1/2" squares

From binding fabric, cut:

  • 5—2-1/2×42" binding strips

Assemble Blocks

Measurements include 1/4" seam allowances. Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated.

Press seams in directions indicated by arrows on diagrams. If no direction is specified, press seam toward darker fabric.

1) Sew together a peach print 2-1/2×24" strip and a white print 2-1/2×24" strip to make a strip set (Diagram 1). Repeat to make a second strip set. Cut strip sets into sixteen 2-1/2"-wide segments.

2) Referring to Diagram 2, sew together a peach print 2-1/2×4-1/2" rectangle and a Step 1 segment to make a subunit. The subunit should be 4-1/2" square including seam allowances.

4) Referring to Diagram 4, add a blue print 2-1/2×6-1/2" rectangle to top edge of Step 3 subunit and a blue print 2-1/2×8-1/2" rectangle to left-hand edge to make a Log Cabin unit. The unit should be 8-1/2" square including seam allowances.

5) Repeat steps 2–4 to make 16 Log Cabin units total.

6) Referring to Diagram 5 for orientation of units, lay out four Log Cabin units, four white print 2-1/2×8-1/2" rectangles, and one blue print 2-1/2" square in three rows. Sew together pieces in rows. Join rows to make a block. The block should be 18-1/2" square including seam allowances. Repeat to make four blocks total.
