Hand-Sewing Projects
Primitive patterns for wool piecing and embroidery warm up a nonworking fireplace. Kathie's Quilt Shoppe is located near the tourism hot spot of Kennebunkport, Maine, and caters to quilters on the go by offering a variety of portable handwork projects.

Well Suited
Shop owner Kathie Ferland designed Well Suited for Quilt Sampler® Spring/Summer 2012 magazine. In the border corners she smartly dressed bow tie blocks with a bit of needle-turn appliqué.

Machine-Quilting Details
Designer Kathie Ferland machine-quilted a large flower design in the tan print area at each block intersection. She stipple-quilted the border and the red floral or red, blue, or dark blue print portions of the blocks.

Well Suited Color Option
Quilt tester Laura Boehnke simplified the design and method when she created the Well Suited color option. For her wall hanging variation, she reduced the number of bow tie blocks from 48 to 16 and used a fusible-appliqué method in place of needle-turn appliqué. Fabrics are from the Whisper of Roses by Maywood Studio.
