Sound Investment

Island Quilter

People come from all over the country to Island Quilter, located in the heart of Puget Sound in Vashon, Washington, to see the shop known for bright fabrics, beautiful displays, and small-town hospitality. Vashon, situated not surprisingly on Vashon Island, is accessible only by ferry.

Work of Art

Work of Art

Both Anja Shive Moritz and Paul Robinson were carpenters before opening their quilt shop. Their strong design skills are reflected in beautiful woodworking and unusual shelves found in the shop. The open floor plan mimics art stores, allowing customers to view hanging pieces, such as Harvest Star by Maggie Ball of Dragonfly Quilts.

Ball of Creativity

Ball of Creativity

Before Island Quilter, locals had to travel off the island for quilting supplies. Now residents can find fabrics, yarn, thread, and notions locally.

Machine-Quilting Designs

Machine-Quilting Designs

Mimi Tremoulet machine-quilted a leaf motif in each batik 5-1/2" square in Shades of Fall, continuing the design into adjacent units with free-motion tendrils, leaves, and swirls.

Shades of Fall Color Option

Shades of Fall Color Option

While the original quilt is reminiscent of fall, quilt tester Laura Boehnke's interpretation could be called Shades of Spring. To play up her spring theme, Laura showcased fussy-cut flowers in the 5 -1/2" squares. The bow-tie units even resemble tulips when made in pastel purple and blue. Her fabrics are from the Cape Cod collection by Fabri-Quilt.
