Loves Me, Loves Me Knot

Loves Me, Loves Me Knot

What looks like intricate curved piecing on this sweet throw isn't actually piecing, but rather curved appliqués layered atop an easy-to-make foundation block.

Zen

Zen

The cool colors and organic motifs of batiks give a contemporary throw a calming vibe. Horizontal rows of stitches flow like rivers across the quilt, adding to its serene feeling.

Simple Squares & Bars

Editor Jill Abeloe Mead made her version of Zen using Kaffe Fassett's shot cottons for Westminster Fabrics. "I was drawn to the simplicity of Zen, and the artful arrangement of the blocks was fun to experiment with," says Jill.

Faded Rose

Faded Rose

This simple beauty's colors pay homage to a cherished but worn antique quilt. The unexpected dark background perfectly sets off the machine-appliquéd pieces

Big Block Throw

Bold botanical prints take the place of appliquéd blocks in this version of Faded Rose. The throw features two collections from FreeSpirit Fabrics-Prairie Gothic by
Jane Sassaman and Park Slope by Erin McMorris.

Editor Elizabeth Tisinger made yet another version and says, "The gentle curves
of the rose appliqués lend themselves to needle-turn appliqué, a technique I love for its portability."

Flannel Snowballs

A cozy group of flannels from Bonnie Sullivan's Winter Wonderland collection and the Woolies collection, both for Maywood Studios, inspired quilt tester Laura Boehnke to make this 38-1/2"-square version of So Many Snowballs.

Over the Moon Throw

Do you want to make a quilt as a baby shower gift, but have only a few days to get it done? In this version of Cinnamon & Nutmeg, the large diamonds are single pieces of fabric, rather than the pieced strips of the original. Use whimsical prints from the Over the Moon collection by David Carter Brown for Wilmington Prints to create a 45-1/2x56-1/2" child's quilt.

Checkerboard Square Color Option

Checkerboard Square Color Option

Wild Triangle-Squares Wall Hanging

Take Checkerboard Square on safari by using the Kalahari collection of Artisan Batiks by Lunn Studios for Robert Kaufman Fabrics. Batiks in the center square have less contrast than the original, blending for a watercolor effect. To better showcase the fabric motifs, use 4" squares and triangle-squares and a 5"-wide-finished border to frame the piece.
