Wool Appliqué
Wool appliqué offers another opportunity to embellish with stitching. Add beads or charms and buttons for more dimension. Any embroidery stitches you would use to stitch on fabric also can be used on wool. Two stitches often used to stitch around the edges of wool appliqué pieces are a blanket stitch and a tack stitch.
Wool appliqué is usually done with felted wool. Felted wool doesn’t fray, so there is no need to turn under the cut edges of the pieces. When cutting out pieces, cut on the drawn pattern lines without adding seam allowances. Cut the edges cleanly, keeping them as smooth as possible.
Many quilt shops sell hand-dyed wool, which is felted during the dyeing process. If you want to felt your own wool, machine-wash woven wool fabric in a hot-water wash,
cool-rinse cycle with a small amount of detergent; machine-dry it on high heat
and steam-press.
