Novelty and Embellished Fabrics

Include a novelty print or a piece of treasured fabric “too good” to cut into pieces. Here are two kinds of quilt backings created from large cuts of fabric. Not only can you sew up these backs quickly, but by using long strips or large squares of fabric, you can preserve the look of the overall design—and avoid the “pain” of cutting up a favorite print.

Showcase an embroidered verse, a photo-transfer collage, or a sampling of complementary test blocks remaining from previous projects. Your handiwork will not go unnoticed on the back of a quilt—in fact, it will be preserved and cherished as much as the quilt itself.
