Hourglass Stars Wall Hanging

Sew a bright wall hanging using lime green, pink, orange, purple, and brown prints from the whimsical Fandango collection for Henry Glass & Co. With careful fabric selection, you can highlight the quilt’s star or hourglass blocks. Fabric placement in the hourglass blocks also creates a secondary star design.

Assemble and Add Middle Border


1. Sew two light pink print large triangles to opposite edges of a purple print 2-1/2" square to make a purple unit A (Diagram 8). Press seams toward triangles. Repeat to make 14 total of purple unit A.

2. Using dark pink print 2-1/2" squares, repeat Step 1 to make 14 of dark pink unit A.

3. Join a light pink print small triangle and a light pink large triangle to opposite edges of a dark pink print 2-1/2" square (Diagram 9). Press seams toward triangles. Add a second light pink print small triangle to a remaining edge of dark pink print 2-1/2" square to make a dark pink unit B. Press as before. Repeat to make four total of a second dark pink unit B.

4. Using purple 2-1/2" squares, repeat Step 3 to make four of purple unit B.

5. Carefully matching seams, lay out three purple A units, three dark pink A units, one purple B unit, and one dark pink B unit, alternating colors, in a row (Quilt Assembly Diagram); sew together to make a short middle border strip. Press seams in one direction. The strip should be 23" long including seam allowances. Repeat to make a second short middle border strip.

6. Lay out four purple A units, four dark pink A units, one dark pink B unit, and one purple B unit, alternating colors, in a row (Quilt Assembly Diagram); sew together to make a long middle border strip. Press seams in one direction. The strip should be 30" long including seam allowances. Repeat to make a second long middle border strip.

7. Sew short middle border strips to short edges of quilt center. Sew long middle border strips to remaining edges. Press all seams toward inner border. The quilt center now should be 29" square including seam allowances.
