City Map Wall Hanging

A novelty Italian map print is the focal point of this bright wall hanging. Latticework blocks in the middle border mimic the look of crisscrossing streets. Fabrics are from the Va Bene! collection from Dear Stella.

Assemble Quilt Top


1. Referring to Quilt Assembly Diagram, sew multicolor stripe 4-1⁄2x16-1⁄2" inner border strips to opposite edges of novelty map print 16-1⁄2" square. Add multicolor stripe 4-1⁄2x24-1⁄2" inner border strips to remaining edges. Press all seams toward inner border. The quilt center now should be 24-1⁄2" square including seam allowances.

2. Referring to Quilt Assembly Diagram, join three border blocks to make a short middle border strip. Press seams in one direction. Repeat to make a second short middle border strip. Sew short middle border strips to opposite edges of quilt center. Press seams toward inner border.

3. Join five border blocks to make a long middle border strip. Press seams in one direction. Repeat to make a second long middle border strip. Sew long middle border strips to remaining edges of quilt center. Press seams toward inner border. The quilt center now should be 40-1⁄2" square including seam allowances.

4. Cut and piece red dot 7x42" strips to make:
2—7x53-1⁄2" outer border strips
2—7x40-1⁄2" outer border strips

5. Sew short outer border strips to opposite edges of quilt center. Add long outer border strips to remaining edges to complete quilt top. Press all seams toward outer border.
