Blossoms and Borders Wall Hanging

The Arabesque collection by Sue Zipkin for Clothworks is a natural choice for this pattern. Triangle-squares join in multiple borders to frame the appliquéd blossoms.

Assemble and Add Border Nos. 1–3


1. For border No. 1, sew cream print 2-1/2x24-1/2" strips to opposite edges of quilt center (Quilt Assembly Diagram). Add cream print 2-1/2x28-1/2" strips to remaining edges. Press all seams toward border. The quilt center now should be 28-1/2" square including seam allowances.

2. Referring to Quilt Assembly Diagram, join 14 triangle-squares to make a border No. 2 strip. Press seams in one direction. Repeat to make four border No. 2 strips total.

3. Sew two border No. 2 strips to opposite edges of quilt center. Press seams toward border No. 1.

4. Add mottled blue 2-1/2" squares to ends of remaining border No. 2 strips. Press seams toward just-added squares. Sew remaining border No. 2 strips to remaining edges of quilt center. Press seams toward border No. 1. The quilt center now should be 32-1/2" square including seam allowances.

5. For border No. 3, sew cream print 2-1/2x32-1/2" strips to opposite edges of quilt center. Add cream print 2-1/2x36-1/2" strips to remaining edges. Press all seams toward border No. 3. The quilt center now should be 36-1/2" square including seam allowances.
