Tiny Pieces Table Topper

By cutting rectangles lengthwise from striped fabric, you can create the illusion of tiny pieced squares that adds to the intricate look of the pattern. Fabrics are from the La Petite École collection by French General for Moda Fabrics.

Assemble Side Units


1. Sew together one blue polka dot 1-1/4x23" strip and one cream floral 1-1/4x23" strip to make strip set A (Diagram 5). Press seam toward blue polka dot. Cut strip set into eight 2-3/4"-wide A segments.

2. Sew together one blue polka dot 1-1/4x6" strip and one cream print 1-1/4x6" strip to make strip set B (Diagram 6). Press seam toward blue polka dot. Cut strip set into four 1-1/4"-wide B segments.

3. Referring to Diagram 7, sew together two A segments, one B segment, two cream print 2-3/4" squares, and one green-and-red stripe 1-1/4x2-3/4" rectangle in two rows. Press seams toward A segments and green-and-red stripe rectangle. Join rows to make a side unit; press seam toward row with A and B segments. The side unit should be 5-3/4x4-1/4" including seam allowances. Repeat to make four side units total.
