Assemble Blocks

1. Sew together two light Flying Geese units to make a light Flying Geese pair (Diagram 5). Press seam in one direction. The Flying Geese pair should be 4-1/2" square including seam allowances.

2. Repeat Step 1 to make 12 light Flying Geese pairs total. So seams will abut in finished block, press seams toward top of six Flying Geese pairs and toward bottom of six pairs (Diagram 6).

3. Using dark Flying Geese units, repeat steps 1 and 2 to make and press 12 dark Flying Geese pairs (Diagram 7).

4. Referring to Diagram 8, lay out eight hourglass units, four light Flying Geese pairs, and four dark Flying Geese pairs in four rows (note direction of black arrows for placement of pairs). Sew together pieces in each row. Press seams in directions indicated by red arrows in diagram. Join rows to make a block; press seams in one direction. The block should be 16-1/2" square including seam allowances. Repeat to make three blocks total.
