Add Sashing

1. Sew pink toile 2x9-1⁄2" strips to opposite edges of a green block. Add pink toile 2x12-1⁄2" strips to remaining edges. Press all seams toward pink toile strips. Align a marked pink damask 3-1⁄2" square with each corner of block (Diagram 6; note directions of marked lines). Sew on marked lines. Trim excess, leaving 1⁄4" seam allowances. Press open attached triangles, pressing seam toward pink damask.

2. Align a marked black polka dot 2" square with each corner of Step 1 block. Stitch, trim, and press as before, pressing seams toward black polka dot, to make a sashed green block (Diagram 7). The sashed green block should be 12-1⁄2" square including seam allowances.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to make a second sashed green block.

4. Using pink block, remaining pink toile 2x9-1⁄2" and 2x12-1⁄2" strips, four marked green damask 3-1⁄2" squares, and four marked light pink polka dot 2" squares, repeat steps 1 and 2 to make a sashed pink block, pressing seams away from green damask and light pink polka dot squares (middle block in Quilt Assembly Diagram).
