Assemble Blocks

1. For one Pineapple block, gather one block center and the following strips: four each of teal ombré print positions 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9; one each of yellow print positions 2, 6, 10, and 12; one each of red-orange print No. 1 positions 2, 6, 10, and 12; one each of light green print No. 1 positions 2, 6, 10, and 12; one each of light orange print positions 2, 6, 10, and 12; one each of light green print No. 2 positions 4, 8, and 11; two each of fuchsia print positions 4, 8, and 11; and one each of red-orange print No. 2 positions 4, 8, and 11.

2. Referring to Diagram 3, sew teal ombré print position 1 strips to opposite edges of block center. Add teal ombré print position 1 strips to remaining edges. Press all seams away from block center.

3. With Step 2 unit facedown, align a 45º line of an acrylic ruler (red line on Diagram 4) with horizontal line on purple print square and a long ruler edge 1/4" beyond seam intersection. Using a rotary cutter and mat, trim along long ruler edge (Diagram 4). Repeat to trim remaining corners (Diagram 5).

4. Referring to Diagram 6, sew yellow print, red-orange print No. 1, light green print No. 1, and light orange print position 2 strips to long trimmed edges of Step 3 unit. Press all seams away from block center.

5. Referring to Diagram 7, with Step 4 unit facedown, align a horizontal line of acrylic ruler with horizontal line on purple print square. Slide ruler over until its right-hand edge aligns with a position 1 strip long edge; the ruler edge should be 1-1/4" from the previous stitching line. Trim along ruler right-hand edge. Repeat to trim remaining corners (Diagram 8). At this point, the block should be 5-1/2" square including seam allowances.

6. Referring to Diagram 9 for color placement and working in numerical order, repeat steps 4 and 5 to add each set of position 3–9 strips and trim them 1-1/4" from the previous stitching line. Press all seams away from block center. Use these guidelines to make sure your block is still the correct size: After adding rounds 3 and 4, the block should be 7-1/2" square including seam allowances; after rounds 5 and 6, it should be 9-1/2" square; and after rounds 7 and 8, it should be 11-1/2" square.

7. Referring to Diagram 10 for color placement and working in numerical order, repeat steps 4 and 5 to add each set of position 10–12 strips to corners of Step 6 unit to make a Pineapple block. Press all seams away from block center. After each strip is added, trim corners even with long edge of position 9 strip as before. The block should be 13-1/2" square including seam allowances.

8. Repeat steps 1–7 to make four Pineapple blocks total.
