Assemble Hourglass Blocks
1. Use a pencil to mark a diagonal line on wrong side of each pink print 7-1/4" square.
2. Layer a marked pink print square atop a purple print 7-1/4" square. Sew together with two seams, stitching 1/4" on each side of drawn line (Diagram 4).
3. Cut pair apart on drawn line to make two triangle units (Diagram 4). Open triangle units and press seams toward purple print to make two large triangle-squares. Each triangle-square should be 6-7/8" square including seam allowances.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to make four large triangle-squares total.
5. Use a pencil to draw a diagonal line perpendicular to seam line on wrong side of two large triangle-squares (Diagram 5).
6. Referring to Diagram 6, pair a marked large triangle-square with an unmarked large triangle-square; make sure that each purple print triangle faces a pink print triangle. Sew together with two seams, stitching 1/4" on each side of drawn line.
7. Cut pair apart on drawn line to make two triangle units (Diagram 7). Open triangle units and press seams in one direction to make two hourglass blocks. Each block should be 6-1/2" square including seam allowances.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 to make four hourglass blocks total.
