Batik Courthouse Steps

Sew Courthouse Steps blocks using purple batiks from the Artisan Batiks: Blossom 2, Elementals: Botanical, and Elementals: Lots of Dots collections by Lunn Studios for Robert Kaufman. For striking contrast between blocks, use dark strips for all sides of the B blocks.

Materials

Inspired by Small Steps from designer Jo Morton

Quilt tester: Laura Boehnke

9x22" piece (fat eighth) red batik (block A)
1/8 yard black batik (block centers)
4—9x22" pieces (fat eighths) assorted light batiks (block A)
5—18x22" pieces (fat quarters) assorted purple batiks (blocks A and B)
7/8 yard purple-and-black batik (border, binding)
1-1/4 yards backing fabric
43" square batting

Finished quilt: 34-1/2" square
Finished blocks: 5" square

Quantities are for 44/45"-wide, 100% cotton fabrics.
Measurements include 1/4" seam allowances. Sew with right sides together unless otherwise stated.
