Make Your Point
Quilt Designer: Mabeth Oxenreider
From American Patchwork & Quilting, June 2005
Make Your Point looks as though it’s set on point. In actuality, three simple blocks—two variations of a pinwheel block and a 16-patch block, create the on-point look. Mabeth designed this quilt from pieces she and a friend had cut for a Santa quilt. After sewing a few Santa blocks, they realized it wasn’t much fun to make, and so devised a plan to use their leftover fabric. “It’s got every color in the world, and since it’s so scrappy I didn’t have to plan from one block to the next,” she says. Mabeth is especially fond of the borders: Their scrappiness was a good way to use lots of fabric, and she says the 45-degree angles of the flying-geese inner border allow the eye to move easily.
