Pink Spring Fling
Quilt Designer: Lila Scott
Quilt Lover’s Favorites Volume 6
This quilt is proof that a good idea sticks around. The inspiration for Pink Spring Fling was an antique quilt top Lila saw in Houston. “I absolutely loved it and wanted it so badly,” she says. “But it was too expensive.” Lila and her friends took some photos of it, and she kept those photos for several years before deciding to stitch Pink Spring Fling. It features Lila’s favorite pinwheel blocks, along with a Square-in-a-Square block. The numerous 4-inch blocks were something of a trial to make, Lila admits. The antique top had an Ocean Waves border and she created a border with similar movement, but fewer pieces. The fabrics were some of the first Lila had ever purchased and are what she now calls “ugly fabrics—little, bitty prints and pastel colors.” But the combination suited Lila perfectly and she chose to hand quilt it, something Lila does with all her bed-sized quilts and those to which she’s especially attached. “I make too many quilts to hand quilt them all, but I find hand quilting very relaxing and a great thing to do while I’m watching TV in the evenings,” she says. Pink Spring Fling remains one of Lila’s all-time favorite quilts: it hangs in her bedroom where she sees it daily.
