Cut Fabrics

Cut pieces in the following order. Project tester Jill Abeloe Mead cut the vertical stripe and tan bird print border strips lengthwise (parallel to the selvages) and the horizontal border strips widthwise so the stripes and bird motifs would run in the same direction in the finished pillow.

1. Lay fusible web, paper side up, over patterns. Use a pencil to trace each pattern once, leaving 1/2" between tracings. Cut out each fusible-web shape roughly 1/4" outside traced lines.

2. Following manufacturer’s instructions, press fusible-web shapes onto wrong sides of designated fabrics; let cool. Cut out fabric shapes on drawn lines. Peel off paper backings.

From multicolor stripe, cut:
4—1-1/2x11" middle border strips (for directional fabric, cut lengthwise)
4—1-1/2x13" middle border strips (for directional fabric, cut widthwise)
1 of Pattern A

From tan bird print, cut:
2—2x13" outer border strips (for directional fabric, cut lengthwise)
2—2x16" outer border strips (for directional fabric, cut widthwise)
1 each of patterns B, C, and D

From tan stripe, cut:
4—1x10" inner border strips (for directional fabric, cut lengthwise)
4—1x11" inner border strips (for directional fabric, cut widthwise)

From dark tan tone-on-tone, cut:
2—2x16" outer border strips
2—2x13" outer border strips
