Dutchmen’s Puzzle Baby Quilt

Assemble Quilt Top

1. Referring to Quilt Assembly Diagram, lay out Dutchmen’s Puzzle blocks and gray floral 2-1/2x14-1/2" and 2-1/2x30-1/2" sashing strips.

2. Sew together pieces in each block row. Press seams toward sashing strips.

3. Join block rows and long sashing strip to make quilt center. Press seams in one direction. The quilt center should be 30-1/2" including seam allowances.

4. Sew gray floral 2-1/2x30-1/2” inner border strips to opposite edges of quilt center. Add gray floral 2-1/2x34-1/2” inner border strips to remaining edges. Press all seams toward inner border.

5. Sew orange dot 2x34-1/2” middle border strips to opposite edges of quilt center. Add orange dot 2x37-1/2” middle border strips to remaining edges. Press all seams toward middle border.

6. Cut and piece tan cat print 5x42" strips to make:

  • 2—5x46-1/2" outer border strips
  • 2—5x37-1/2" outer border strips
7. Sew short outer border strips to opposite edges of quilt center. Add long outer border strips to remaining edges to complete quilt top. Press all seams toward outer border.
