Showcase everything autumn—from plaids and wool to pumpkins and acorns—on a quilt-as-you-sew wall hanging.
Spooky Pumpkins Wall Quilt
All for Fall gets a spooky twist when made in Halloween prints from the Eerie Alley collection by SEI for Robert Kaufman. To fashion a festive wall hanging, quilt tester Laura Boehnke re-created only the top portion of the design using fusible appliqué and surrounded it with a 5”-wide (finished) border.
Adapt the scrappy, brick-style design of this rainbow-hue quilt to suit the size of your recipient.
Rectangles and Squares Quilt
Rectangle units using prints from the Habitat collection by Michele D’Amore for Benartex and solid gray create a sophisticated quilt with color placement that “flows” from row to row.
Enhance an orderly design of eight-pointed stars in diagonal rows by surrounding the stars with blue sashing.
Eight-Pointed Stars Wall Hanging
Bold and bright prints in the setting triangles and border draw attention to the perimeter of this playful, five-block wall hanging. Fabrics are from the Phoebe collection by Wendy Slotboom for In the Beginning Fabrics.
Color placement is key to achieving a graphic bar-and-brick design from rectangles in two sizes.
Stacked Strips Crib Quilt
Showcase fabric in a lap-size quilt by using large-scale prints for the wide rectangles and small- and medium-scale prints for the narrow rectangles. Contrasting prints are from the Silent Cinema collection by Jenean Morrison and solids are from the New Voile Solids collection, both from FreeSpirit.
Two traditional blocks unite in a medallion-style design featuring foundation and curved piecing.
Bright Pickle Dish Wall Quilt
If reproduction prints aren't your style, brighten up the look with prints from the Lift Your Spirits collection by Wendy Bentley for Timeless Treasures. For her high-energy interpretation, quilt tester Laura Boehnke chose prints for the 12 Pickle Dish blocks and the four Lover’s Knot blocks that have contrast in both color and scale.
At just 1-1/4" square, tiny triangle-squares are sure to turn heads. Intersperse Cheddar yellow among dark brown prints for a look that sparkles.
Little Blue Triangle-Squares
Make a table topper that’s perfect for pairing with fine china. Sixty-four tiny triangle-squares make up the quilt center. These fabrics are from Wedgewood collection by Windham Fabrics.
A combination of hand quilting and embroidery enhances playful circle appliqués on a quick-to-make table runner.
Serve up a delightful asymmetrical quilt by wrapping a helping of Broken Dishes blocks with appliquéd and pieced borders on just two sides.
Broken Dishes Quilt
By swapping crisp solid white for the light floral, quilt tester Laura Boehnke made the Broken Dishes blocks pop in her smaller version of Side Dish. Instead of appliquéing the middle border, Laura selected a novelty print from the Alphabet Soup Girl collection from Riley Blake Designs that stands on its own. By mixing a novelty print with tone-on-tones and a small-scale floral in the outer border, Laura draws the viewer’s eye across the quilt top.
