Quilter’s Haven

Among the offerings of Bountiful, Utah, is Quilter’s Haven, where quilts, wearables, and bag samples greet visitors.

Bright Bags

Bright, happy fabrics are not in short supply at Quilter’s Haven. Joni recognizes that in addition to quilts, customers come in looking for ideas for bags, aprons, kids’ clothes, and other fabric items, including pincushions, such as The Abbey Bag pincushion by Abbey Lane Quilts.

Exposed Brick Beauty

Joni’s husband, a contractor, had a vision for the current space. “It was a mess when we looked at it,” Joni says, “but we saw the brick wall and said, ‘We’ll take it.’” Today the brick serves a background for quilts and vignettes.

A Wide Variety

Quilter’s Haven exhibits a great selection of fabrics and patterns. Along with many bright quilting fabrics, the shop stocks Civil War reproduction fabrics, hand-dyed wool, embroidery supplies, and appliqué patterns. A sample Double Wedding Ring quilt hangs above some of the neutral fabric bolts in the shop.

Come Sail Away

The Set Sail baby quilt illustrates the range of patterns and fabrics found at Quilter’s Haven.

Crib Full of Cuties

Fabric and pattern samples fill a crib in the shop. Smooth Sailing shows off a duck sailor while Abundantly Blessed drapes over the side.

Just a Little Retro

A metal dress form in the shop gives shape to Retro Chic Apron by Bliss. Swing Bag by Amy Butler hangs from a fleur-de-lis-shape hook.

Easy & Breezy

Though they may look pieced, the curved blocks on Easy & Breezy are appliquéd. Appliqué is the perfect shortcut for creating this standout spring wall hanging. Barbara Jones of QuiltSoup Pattern Co. and shop owner, Joni Thomson designed Easy & Breezy for Quilt Sampler magazine.

Rickrack Rules

Circular and floral machine-quilting designs combine with rickrack and buttons to complement the curvy style of Easy & Breezy.

Easy & Breezy Color Option

Quilt tester Laura Boehnke made the appliqué rectangles narrower, shortened the vines, and decreased the number of leaf appliqués to make this optional version of Easy & Breezy. Fabrics are from Nantucket collection from Studio e Fabrics.

Contact Quilter’s Haven to purchase a copy of the Spring/Summer 2010 issue of Quilt Sampler. Issues are also available at your local quilt shop, on newsstands, and online.
