Quilters Corner

At Quilters Corner in Ithaca, New York, each of the four owners has a specialty, but everyone pitches in when needed.

The shop, located near Cornell University and Ithaca College, is dedicated to sewing education.

Fabric selection ranges from batiks to brights to reproductions to florals. Batiks are the star in Things That Grin in the Night wall hangingfrom Kim Diehl’s Simple Seasons book.

Quilters Corner attracts quilters with special events, such Stitcher’s Garden Block of the Month, where students learn to use decorative stitches on sewing machines.

Brynne Sigg designed Connect Four for Quilt Sampler Fall/Winter 2010 magazine.

Darlene Aspinwall used variegated thread to machine-quilt a vine of leaves through the dark batik squares of the ladder blocks and narrow, freestyle leaf designs in the Friendship Star blocks. She quilted meandering swirl motifs in the light batik background.

To get the look of a different era, quilt tester Laura Boehnke used an array of reproduction prints from the Nellie’s Garden collection by Nancy Mahoney for P&B Textiles to make her version. She used only two prints for each star and two additional prints for the squares to keep the Friendship Star blocks organized.
