    Quilt tester Laura Boehnke's blocks look different than those in the original quilt because she changed the positions of the light, medium, and dark fabrics. “Don’t be afraid to use a variety of values in your blocks,” Laura says. “It can create interesting effects.”

    Project tester: Laura Boehnke

     

    Try stacking two buttons for a different decorative element as project tester Laura Boehnke did. She used wool to make the case exterior and scissors appliqué. Instead of hand-stitching the appliqué, she machine-stitched it in place.

    Quilt tester Laura Boehnke first picked a fabric for the border, then selected fabrics for the quilt center for her mini rendition of Perfect Partners. “I wanted the stars to be more visible than in the original mini quilt, so I chose darker fabrics for the star points,” Laura says.

    Quilt tester Laura Boehnke used a package of precut 5" squares in solid red and solid cream, plus yardage for the borders, for her small version of Perfect Partners. “I changed the orientation of the triangle-squares to get a different look,” Laura says. “This arrangement reminds me of birds in flight.”
