Marking Quilt Design
Freestyle, outline, and in-the-ditch quilting do not require marking on the quilt top. For other designs, you'll need to mark the top, tracing a stencil, template, or drawing.
1. Before you begin, press the quilt top. Be sure to test your marker to make sure it shows up on the fabric and is easy to remove when finished. Secure the template on a flat surface with masking tape. Match the quilt top seams with the edge guides of the pattern. Firmly secure the quilt top over the template with masking tape.
2. Begin marking at the center of the quilt top and work toward the borders. Mark the larger and/or more complex designs first, then fill in the smaller details. Mark the background filler last, if you choose to stitch one. Use a ruler to draw straight lines.
