Cut and Assemble Star Block A
From one yellow batik, cut:
32 of Triangle Pattern
From one red batik, cut:
32 of Triangle Pattern
From one blue batik, cut:
1—9" square, cutting it diagonally twice in an X for 4 triangles total
4—6" squares
1. Aligning marked matching points, sew two assorted yellow batik triangles to opposite long edges of a red batik triangle (Diagram 1). Press seams open.
2. Add a third yellow batik triangle to remaining edge of red batik triangle to make a light triangle unit (Diagram 2). Press seam open.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to make eight light triangle units total.
4. Using three red batik triangles and one yellow batik triangle, repeat steps 1 and 2 to make a dark triangle unit (Diagram 3). Press all seams open. Repeat to make eight dark triangle units total.
5. With marked matching points aligned, join a light triangle unit and a dark triangle unit to make a diamond unit (Diagram 4). Press seam open. Repeat to make eight diamond units total.
6. Pin together two diamond units with a light triangle unit atop a dark triangle unit. Sew together to make a diamond pair; do not sew into seam allowance at inner corner (blue dot on Diagram 5). Set a blue batik triangle into the diamond pair corner to make a star point unit. Press all seams open. Repeat to make four star point units total.
7. Sew together two star point units; do not sew into seam allowance at inner corner (blue dot on Diagram 6). Set a blue batik 6" square into corner to make a star half. Press all seams open. Repeat to make two star halves total.
8. Join star halves; do not stitch into seam allowance at either corner (blue dots on Diagram 7). Set a blue batik 6" square into each remaining corner to make Star Block A. Press all seams open. The block should be 19-1/4" square including seam allowances.
